Field experience

Conducted bird surveys to assess urban bird diversity from Triangle Bird Count in triangle cities of North Carolina (Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, Cary, Raleigh, and Garner) during the spring of 2021 and 2022.

Conducted fieldwork of forest birds’ playback trials under the project “Sensitivity of forest birds to Tufted Titmouse contact calls” in the summer of 2020.

Participated in Audubon’s national project “Climate Watch” and conducted bird counts (target species: Brown-headed Nuthatch) at assigned areas in Orange County, NC since January 2020.

Conducted fieldwork of bluebirds’ nest box monitoring under the project "Effects of construction noise on Eastern Bluebird reproductive biology” in spring 2019.

Management experience

Co-founder of City Bird, documenting bird-window collisions and advocating for bird-friendly campuses in the Triangle area of NC since Aug 2022.

Coordinates a seasonal bird survey project at Brumley Forest Nature Preserve - North, evaluating the effects of habitat improvement activities on bird populations since Aug 2022.

Currently serving as the Chair of the Community Science Committee and a board member of the New Hope Audubon Society since May 2021.

Currently serving as the Project Coordinator of Triangle Bird Count since April 2021.

Mentor and teaching experience

Guest lecture speaker to NCSU Course FW373 Vertebrate Natural History, titled “A community context for Tufted Titmouse territory defense and aggressive vocalizations” in Apr 2023.

Mentored undergraduates for the EcoStudio Intern Program at UNC-Chapel Hill under the project “Assess building risks for bird-window collisions” and “Science communication on bird-window collision mitigation strategies” since Jan 2022.

Worked as a Teaching Assistant for North Carolina State University courses in FW403 Urban Wildlife Management (Fall 2021 and Fall 2022), AEC501 Ornithology (Spring 2022), and ES150 Water and the Environment (Spring 2023).

Mentored a high school student on collecting ecological field data from “UF Student Science Training Program for High School Students”, Gainesville, FL, during the summer of 2018.

Advocacy

Advocated for the passing of the Native Plants Bill and Heirs Property Bill in the NC House and Senate on behalf of the New Hope Audubon Society and Audubon North Carolina to NC House Representatives and Senators. 06/2022.

Advocating for the installation of window films on the UNC-Chapel Hill Wilson Hall breezeway to prevent bird-window collisions. Collaborating with UNC Sustainable Carolina and other stakeholders. 01/2022.

Helped prepare presentation materials for the “Lights Out” campaign in Durham. The campaign aims to turn off city building lights from 11 pm to 6 am during bird migration seasons. 01/2022.

Advocated for the passing of the Migratory Bird Protection Act in Congress on behalf of the New Hope Audubon Society to Congressman David Price. 08/2021.
